Supporting government partner
The Municipality of Groningen has a clear ambition: Groningen Waste-Free by 2030. This requires a progressive approach, also in the textile chain:
In the Municipality of Groningen, we collect textiles separately throughout the entire municipality. This prevents textiles from ending up in the residual waste. Together with our partner Sympany, we ensure that the collected textiles are sorted for reuse and recycling. But we go further than that!
Groningen is a leader in closing the textile chain. We have developed a Textile Hub where the entire textile chain comes together: from design to reuse. The hub is a creative and innovative breeding ground where entrepreneurs, educational institutions, and the government join forces.
And with results! It gave rise to Gronings Gold (sustainable upholstery fabric developed from local residual textiles) and the Grunneger Spiekerboxem (the first jeans made from 100% recycled cotton) was developed. This way, we collaboratively build a sustainable and waste-free textile chain.
With SORTED we are taking the next step towards a circular textile chain. Together we are changing textiles from waste into valuable raw materials!
